The Day of 'Arafah

“There is no better day in the Sight of Allah than the Day of Arafah.” – Ibn Hibban
It is the day when our religion was completed by Allah – from when it was first sent down on the night of Laylat al-Qadr, “The Night of Power” within the last ten days of Ramadan, till it was made complete, on this day, the “Day of Arafat.”
“Today I have perfected for you your religion, and completed upon you My blessing, and I have chosen for you Islam as (your) religion.” (Qu’ran, 5:3)

When is the Day of Arafah 2023?

The Day of Arafah is on the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah, the twelfth and final month of the Islamic calendar. This year, it will fall on June 27, 2023. The Day of Arafah is considered the most important day of Hajj. Pilgrims leave for the plains of Arafah just after dawn. The pilgrims spend the entire day standing (or sitting) around the Mount of Mercy, asking Allah for forgiveness and making supplications.

Fasting on the Day of Arafah

It is Sunnah for Muslims to fast on the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah, because fasting is one of the best of deeds. In a Hadith Qudsi, Allah says:

“All the deeds of the son of Adam are for him, except fasting, which is for Me and I shall reward for it.” (Bukhari)

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said “Fasting the day of Arafah is an expiation for all the sins of the previous year and expiation for all the sins of the coming year.”

What to do on the Day of Arafah?

On this day especially, be sure to increase your dhikr, recitation of the Quran, good deeds and duas before the morning of Eid. Be sure to ask for forgiveness – even if you’re not able to stand on the plains of Arafat like the pilgrims of Hajj do.On this day especially, be sure to increase your dhikr, recitation of the Quran, good deeds and duas before the morning of Eid. • Give your Zakat and Sadaqah during the blessed days of Dhul Hijjah and reap the rewards of this blessed month. Don’t forget to donate your Qurbani in time for Eid!
  • The takbeerat of Eid should be recited by everyone out loud after each prayer from Fajr on the Day of Arafah (the 9th of Dhul Hijjah), as well as throughout Eid until after Asr on the 13th of Dhul Hijjah.

Gift Aid It!Add 25% more to your donation at no cost to you.

A Gift Aid declaration allows Muslim Welfare Trust to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to Muslim Welfare Trust we can claim back 25p, at no extra cost to you.”

By ticking the "Yes" box, I agree I would like Muslim Welfare Trust to reclaim the tax on all qualifying donations I have made, as well as any future donations, until I notify them otherwise. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year I may be asked to pay any difference. I understand that Muslim Welfare Trust will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Muslim Welfare Trust receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.
